Three Dead in 3 Labor Day Wichita Shootings

Wichita police are investigating three separate shootings that occurred within 24 hours on Labor Day, leaving three people dead and four others injured. The violence began at 1:40 a.m. Monday in Old Town where 23-year-old D'Andre Rubio-Glover was fatally shot following a disturbance in the 100 block of North Rock Island. Then at 2 p.m. Monday in the 2900 block of North Broadway one man died and three others were wounded after a workplace disturbance escalated into gunfire. A third shooting at 4:43 p.m. on North Arkansas Avenue left one man dead and another critically injured in what police believe was an unrelated incident. Police Chief Joe Sullivan called the day's violence "unbelievable" and "very discouraging" for the holiday weekend.

Republican Governor Candidate Removed From 2026 Ballot

Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab removed Republican Doug Billings from the 2026 gubernatorial race Friday after Attorney General Kris Kobach issued a legal opinion requiring governor and lieutenant governor candidates to run as a team. Kobach's opinion stated that when Billings' running mate April McCoy withdrew from the ticket, state law provided no mechanism to replace her, effectively terminating Billings' candidacy since the governor-lieutenant governor alliance was broken before the filing deadline.
