1. Kansas Population Grows by 30,000; 34 Cities Gain Over 100 Residents
Kansas reached a record population of 2,970,606 in 2024 after adding 30,060 residents, marking growth 10 times greater than the previous year when only 3,396 people were added. While 34 cities gained more than 100 residents compared to 18 in 2023, four cities lost more than 100 people during the past year, down from 14 cities in 2023. 2. Rain Continues Through Midday Before Afternoon Clearing
A wet start to the work week will see rain and occasional thunder continuing through midday before tapering off this afternoon, with temperatures only reaching the upper 60s despite starting in the lower 60s. Tuesday will bring patchy sunshine and warmer temperatures in the middle to upper 70s, though still 10 to 15 degrees below normal for late August. Another storm system will sweep across Kansas Wednesday and Thursday, with most rain falling between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, though severe weather is not expected.

3. Missouri Amish Produce Auction Supplies Kansas City Market
Three times weekly from March until first frost, an Amish-operated produce auction in Jamesport, Missouri sells locally grown fruits and vegetables to wholesale buyers serving Kansas City and across Missouri. The North Missouri Produce Auction, managed by Freeman Gingerich and auctioneer Andy Ropp, operates from a 27,000-square-foot facility serving Missouri's largest Amish settlement of around 175 families. The auction attracts about 50 grocery store owners, produce purveyors and locals who arrive by car and horse-and-buggy to bid on watermelons, cantaloupes, peaches and other seasonal produce from farms around the town of 559 residents located 90 miles northwest of Kansas City.

4. Concordia Man, 76, Dies in Plane Crash Sunday Night
David Kadel of Concordia was killed Sunday night when his home-built single-engine plane encountered a possible mechanical issue after takeoff from Concordia airport before 7:30 p.m. The plane, the kit manufactured in Hays, lost altitude and nose-dived into the ground, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Kadel was pronounced dead at the scene.

5. No. 22 Iowa State Beats No. 17 Kansas State 24-21 in Dublin
Rocco Becht passed for two touchdowns and ran for another score as No. 22 Iowa State defeated No. 17 Kansas State 24-21 in the Aer Lingus Classic in Dublin, Ireland. The annual "Farmageddon" matchup carried extra significance as both teams compete for Big 12 title game berths, with the conference champion guaranteed a spot in the expanded College Football Playoffs. Becht completed 14 of 28 passes for 183 yards, finding Dominic Overby for a 23-yard touchdown in the first quarter and Brett Eskildsen for a 24-yard score in the third quarter before icing the game with a fourth-down conversion to Carson Hansen with 2:26 remaining.
