Tentative agreements reached in Salina teacher contract talks, but salary remains unresolved

SALINA, Kan. — Salina Public Schools teachers could see changes to longevity pay calculations and paid injury leave under tentative agreements reached with the district for the 2026-27 school year, though major compensation issues remain unresolved.

The USD 305 Board of Education and the NEA-Salina teachers union settled several workplace policy disputes during their third round of negotiations, but the parties have yet to finalize the board's proposed $1,000 base salary increase and a $20 monthly increase to employer-paid health insurance premiums.

Negotiators were scheduled to reconvene Wednesday to continue discussions on the financial offers and a disputed "blackout day" leave policy for district employees.
