Teen injured, another arrested following Carey Park shooting
16-year-old faces aggravated battery and weapons charges after Wednesday night gunfire
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 14-year-old boy is in stable condition after being shot near a Hutchinson baseball field Wednesday night, leading to the arrest of a 16-year-old suspect, according to the Hutchinson Police Department. Officers responded at 8:21 p.m. to the area near Hobart-Detter Field in Carey Park, where they found the injured teen and immediately rendered first aid. The victim was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for additional treatment.
Following an initial investigation, authorities took a 16-year-old boy into custody and transported him to the Reno County Youth Shelter Detention. He faces allegations of aggravated battery, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a weapon and possession of THC. Police have not released the names of the minors and are urging anyone with information to reference case No. 2026-19028 when calling the Hutchinson Police Department at 620-694-2816 or Crime Stoppers of Reno County at 800-222-TIPS. Any formal charges will be determined by the Reno County District Attorney's office.
