District receives $3.2 million for major maintenance
EVANSTON, Wyo. — Uinta County School District No. 1 received approximately $3.2 million in major maintenance funding from the state in July, which will cover the completion of several summer facility projects. High school pool temporarily closed amid roofing repairs
EVANSTON, Wyo. — The Evanston High School pool has been temporarily closed after an issue during roofing work caused small chunks of concrete to fall into the water. Facilities Director Jaraun Dennis noted the contractor will clean up and repair the penetrations once the roof is finished later this month. Additionally, the district is bringing in a dive team using dye to locate a separate leak in the 40-year-old pool, though officials confirmed the leaking water is safely draining into a sump pump area and not causing foundational damage.
School board sets candidate forum for late October
EVANSTON, Wyo. — Voters will have a chance to hear directly from Uinta County School District No. 1 board candidates at a public forum scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. The event, held in conjunction with the Evanston Education Association, will feature candidate introductions and a public question-and-answer session. The district will also host an informational luncheon for candidates Oct. 22 to review the strategic plan, budget and board responsibilities.
State funding boosts high school dual enrollment numbers
EVANSTON, Wyo. — Increased state funding has allowed Evanston High School to more than double its dual enrollment count this year, reaching 70 participating students. Assistant Superintendent Scott Kohler clarified to the board that dual enrollment courses are taught online by Western Wyoming Community College professors, while concurrent classes are taught in person by college-certified high school staff. The recent legislative funding allocation allows local students to take multiple dual credit courses with both tuition and textbooks fully covered.
'Border Wars' volleyball tournament deemed a massive success
EVANSTON, Wyo. — Evanston successfully hosted the "Border Wars" volleyball tournament over the weekend, bringing 28 schools, 54 teams and 194 games to the city over a two-day period.
