Board debates updated communications job description
McPHERSON, Kan. — The school board discussed updating a job description for a communications and social media management position during its latest meeting. The proposal, listed as Item 6.1, seeks to align the role with the district's strategic plan and formalize duties currently handled by an administrative assistant. Superintendent Shiloh Vincent supports the update, which would task the role with managing the district's cross-functional communication team and streamlining social media presence. During the debate, officials noted that incoming Superintendent Cody Rierson, who takes over the district on July 1, should also review the proposal before final approval.
No new funding required for proposed communications role
McPHERSON, Kan. — Addressing concerns about increased taxpayer costs, district officials clarified that the proposed communications and social media position will not require additional funding or a new full-time equivalent employee. The transition would act as a lateral move and title change for an existing 12-month employee whose current job description no longer matches their actual daily duties. Superintendent Shiloh Vincent noted the change would have a neutral impact on the district's budget.
District explores temporary location for Career and Technical Education program
McPHERSON, Kan. — The school district is evaluating a temporary location for its Career and Technical Education (CTE) program ahead of upcoming summer construction. Architect Duane Cash of Incite Design Studio told the board the relocation is necessary to accommodate drainage work meant to eliminate a flooding threat to the Roundhouse, which suffered severe floor damage after heavy rains last summer. To handle the major operational lift, Cash proposed temporarily moving the CTE programs to the south side of the campus, allowing the district to move heavy equipment only once.
Eighth-grade recognition ceremony honors transitioning students
McPHERSON, Kan. — The school district recently honored transitioning middle school students with eighth-grade recognition events. Clarifying previous scheduling announcements, officials confirmed the recognition was held on Friday, May 8, as part of the countywide All Schools Day celebration. The day featured a downtown parade at 10:30 a.m. and the traditional Madathon at Linnea Park, celebrating the eighth graders as they prepare to enter the high school program in the fall.
Weekend graduation ceremonies conclude school year festivities
McPHERSON, Kan. — The school district wrapped up its end-of-year celebrations with the McPherson High School graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 9, concluding the weekend's festivities. The board praised the success of the all-schools-day events and noted a positive community response. Additionally, community members stepped forward prior to graduation to pay off negative meal balances for the seniors, ensuring all graduates could cross the stage and celebrate without remaining financial debts.
