The approved plan, designated as Option 1, restricts new transfers into Riverside Elementary School and William Allen White Elementary School to preserve space for reassigned Logan Avenue Elementary students. Superintendent David McGehee said families living within those attendance boundaries will not be forced to transfer, and the district plans to manage neighborhood enrollment growth through staffing adjustments and classroom aides.
District prepares educators for 2028 state literacy mandate
EMPORIA, Kan. — To meet a Kansas mandate requiring certain educators to hold a literacy seal on their teaching licenses by July 1, 2028, the district is rolling out Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling training. District instructional leaders said the training emphasizes the "science of reading," including explicit phonics and word recognition strategies, and is intended to strengthen early literacy outcomes.
