Survey Shows Majority Favor East Poplar Site for New Arkansas City Fire Station

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — A majority of respondents to a community survey on a potential new Arkansas City fire station favored a site near East Poplar Street and J Street, according to results released Thursday by the Fire/EMS Department.

Of 247 total responses received, 144 respondents, or 58.3%, indicated a preference for the East Poplar Street and J Street area near the U.S. 77 Bypass and Poplar Walking Trail. The remaining 103 respondents, or 41.7%, preferred the 700 block of East Kansas Avenue near Arkansas City Middle School and the Arkansas City Greenhouse.

The department thanked residents for participating in the survey and emphasized that no decisions have been finalized.

"It is important to remember that these locations are only proposed concepts at this stage," the department said. "No final decisions have been made, and no construction has been approved."

The City Commission is continuing to review information, evaluate options and consider community feedback before determining next steps.
