SUMNER COUNTY — The Sumner County Health Department is encouraging residents to develop multiple communication channels for receiving critical information during emergencies as part of National Preparedness Month.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has observed National Preparedness Month since 2004 to encourage Americans to prepare for emergencies National Preparedness Month, with this year's theme focusing on "Preparedness Starts at Home."

The health department emphasized the importance of establishing reliable information sources before, during and after emergencies. "Preparedness Starts at Home, the 2025 theme, focuses on getting back to the essentials of preparedness," National Preparedness Month according to FEMA's Ready Campaign. The federal initiative outlines four key preparedness actions: knowing your risks, making a family emergency plan, building an emergency supply kit and getting involved in community preparedness efforts.
