Sumner County Health Department Concludes Active Week of Community Health Outreach
WELLINGTON — The Sumner County Health Department wrapped up a busy week of community health initiatives, providing diabetes screenings and flu vaccinations to area residents at multiple Wellington events.
The department's Home Health Agency offered free blood sugar testing during the Wellington Fall Festival and the Strides Walk for Diabetes Awareness on Saturday, Oct. 4. Staff members set up a booth downtown at the corner of Seventh and Washington avenues, where the walk took place from 9 to 11 a.m.
The Strides Walk, organized by the Wellington Lions Club, encouraged community members to engage in the fight against diabetes. The free event offered blood sugar screenings and prizes for participants, with every lap walked increasing chances for a door prize.
Earlier in the week, the health department conducted its annual Drive-Thru Flu Clinic on Thursday, Oct. 2. Staff administered flu shots to residents without requiring them to leave their vehicles, streamlining the vaccination process.
"Our annual Drive-Thru Flu Clinic yesterday was a success! Thank you to everyone that came and saw us and to all the staff for making this happen!" the department posted on social media.
The health department thanked community members who participated in the events and acknowledged staff members who helped coordinate the outreach efforts.
