Sumner County Fair Seeks Volunteers for Weekend Drag Races in Caldwell
CALDWELL — The Sumner County Fair is recruiting volunteers to help with its Main Street Drag Race event scheduled for Saturday afternoon in downtown Caldwell.
Fair organizers posted a call for assistance Wednesday, outlining several volunteer opportunities needed to support the races. Tasks include helping with registration and recording, judging the finish line, assembling goodie bags for drivers, and managing the staging area to keep spectators off the track.
Volunteers are also needed Friday to place street signs around town to mark the detour and road closure, as well as to position sponsor signs along the drag race route and place blocks to section off the racing area.
"We are so excited for the races this weekend," fair organizers said in the social media post. "If you are able to help in any way, please let us know here or get ahold of Julia."
The event will affect traffic on Main Street and surrounding streets in Caldwell. Organizers are asking residents and businesses located on Market, Main and Chisholm streets to avoid parking on those streets on race day to keep them clear for the detour.
According to a separate announcement, parking will need to remain clear on Chisholm Street from Fourth Street north to Highway 81. The detour route will run from Market Street between Third and First avenues.
Drivers participating in the drag races will need to park on Main Street at First and Second streets and use alternate routes to reach their staging area on race day.
