Storm Damage Forces $280k Gym Floor Replacement at McPherson High
District lacks flood insurance but has adequate capital funds to cover repairs.

MCPHERSON — The McPherson USD 418 Board of Education approved a $278,500 contract with Lankford Enterprises of Bucyrus to replace the damaged Roundhouse gymnasium floor at McPherson High School following the devastating June 17-18 storm that brought 7-10 inches of rain and winds near 90 mph. Superintendent Shiloh Vincent told board members that 1½ to 2 inches of water flooded the gym floor after being blown through a door on the north side of the building during the severe weather event. While the district does not carry flood insurance, Vincent said the school has sufficient capital outlay funds to cover the replacement costs without impacting other district operations.
