State grant to transform downtown McPherson space into short-term rentals

MCPHERSON, Kan. — A $100,000 state grant will transform an underutilized upper-story downtown space into short-term rental apartments, a move designed to preserve McPherson’s historic character and spur local economic growth. McPherson Main Street and Primrose Investments, owned by Dwight and Brenda Becker, received the Historic Economic Asset Lifeline, or HEAL, funding from the Kansas Department of Commerce. The local award is part of a broader $1.3 million statewide rural revitalization package recently announced by the administration of Gov. Laura Kelly, a Democrat, to strengthen local businesses and rehabilitate aging properties.

To recognize the Beckers and celebrate the transformational downtown investment, McPherson Main Street will host a public presentation at 10:30 a.m. May 26 at the McPherson Community Building. Refreshments donated by Craft Coffee Parlor will be served, and community supporters are asked to RSVP by May 21 via email at mainst@mcphersonks.org or by calling 620-241-7430.
