The McPherson Fire Department was dispatched at 7:13 p.m. Saturday to the store at 205 S. Centennial Drive for a reported structure fire, with initial reports indicating a fire in an office inside the stock area at the rear of the building. According to a release from the department, crews entered through the rear of the store and found an office with minor fire damage, one sprinkler head activated and flowing water, and water on the floor throughout portions of the rear stock area.
The department responded with one ladder truck, one engine, two command vehicles and nine personnel. Firefighters confirmed the fire was fully out and placed wedges in the activated sprinkler head — devices inserted to shut off a single triggered head without draining the whole system — to stop the flow of water. The release, signed by Fire Chief Chad Mayberry, said: "The cause of the fire remains under investigation. At this time, no foul play is suspected."
