Six abandoned puppies reunited with mother as police pursue charges
Community raises over $1,100 for care after dogs were dumped at local Walmart
MCPHERSON, Kan. — Six puppies found abandoned in a pink bag outside a local Walmart on May 21 have been reunited with their mother as authorities prepare to file criminal charges against the dogs' owner.
McPherson Police Chief Mikel Golden announced Thursday that investigators located the owner and brought the mother dog to the McPherson Animal Shelter, where she will nurse the pups until they are ready for adoption.
Golden praised the volunteers, shelter workers and police staff who bottle-fed the newborns around the clock, an effort bolstered by a community fundraiser coordinated by the Citizen Journal that collected more than $1,100 for the animals' care.
