Sheriff Provides Limited Update on Fatal Shooting Investigation
Montagne tells commissioners ongoing probe restricts discussion of teen's death
MCPHERSON, Kan. — Sheriff Jerry Montagne offered limited details about the Jan. 31 fatal shooting of 19-year-old Joshua Soden during a county commission update, citing restrictions on commenting during an active investigation. Citizen Journal has been in contact with Montagne, who restated known facts about the incident but said he could not provide additional details given the ongoing investigation. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is assisting the McPherson County Sheriff's Office in the probe into the early morning incident near Inman, where Soden died following a physical altercation that stemmed from a house party. An 18-year-old male who authorities say shot Soden during the fight called 911 and drove to the Inman Police Department, where he was questioned but not arrested.
