SCOTSBLUFF, Neb. — The Scottsbluff City Council unanimously approved the termination of a 2007 landfill agreement with the City of Gering after realizing the Gering landfill would reach capacity before a new joint site could be established. The termination will refund approximately $770,000 to Scottsbluff, which the city plans to use to build a new solid waste transfer station. In the interim, the city is reportedly negotiating a contract with Waste Connections to handle municipal waste disposal via roll-offs to address an upcoming deadline.

Riverside Discovery Center introduces evening zoo events

SCOTSBLUFF, Neb. — The Riverside Discovery Center is launching a new series of evening events to boost summer attendance and offer a unique experience for visitors. It was announced that the zoo will stay open until 10 p.m. for four upcoming events, with the first ZooFest scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, featuring food trucks, vendors and an $8 admission fee. The later hours are designed to allow guests to view the animals when they are more active in the cooler nighttime temperatures.
