Salthawks football falls short at home in a 31-10 loss against Salina South Cougars

The Hutchinson High School Salthawks hosted the Salina South High School Cougars on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Gowens Stadium in Hutchinson, KS.

The Salthawks have struggled early in the season, coming into this game with a 0-2 record. Salina South entered the game at 1-1. MaxPreps ranks the Cougars in the Top 20 in Kansas Class 5A.

Salina South had the upper hand throughout the game. Hutchinson showed some spark on offense, with seniors Lamar Govain and Brodie McCuan and junior Davin Morgan providing some explosive plays. But the Salthawks hurt themselves with penalties and inconsistencies. Twice the Salthawks came close to the goal line but were unable to cross it for six.

At halftime the score was 21-0 in favor of Salina South. The second half was a closer contest, with both teams scoring ten points. But, as in the first half, Hutchinson thwarted themselves with penalties and turnovers.

The Hutchinson High School Salthawks' next matchup will be against the Haysville Campus High School Colts on Friday, September 25, 2026, in Wichita, KS.
