Planning commission advances South Salina retail-and-office rezoning

SALINA, Kan. — The Salina Planning Commission unanimously advanced a rezoning request Tuesday for a proposed South Salina commercial development site, moving the 9 South Addition closer to reality. The roughly 8-acre site, formerly a seasonal retail site along South Ninth Street, would be rezoned from an existing commercial category to a planned commercial zoning district to accommodate the development filed by Jeff Maes on behalf of Nine South Development, LLC. The recommendation now goes to the city commission for final approval.

Decades-vacant site slated for new professional office building

SALINA, Kan. — A long-vacant site within the Wilbur Planned Development District could soon house a new 6,750-square-foot professional office building. The commission unanimously approved an amended preliminary development plan requested by Charles Renz on behalf of SRH Advisors, LLC for tracts near East Crawford Street that have remained undeveloped for decades. Plans call for a limestone-and-brick facade and future covered parking for employees.

Former city fire station property rezoned for future municipal use

SALINA, Kan. — The Fire Station No. 4 property, slated to be vacated, took its first step toward a new use Tuesday as the commission unanimously recommended rezoning the site from single-family residential to a public-use zoning category. The fire station is expected to relocate to a new facility under construction near East Crawford Street and Markley Road. City staff said City Facility Maintenance operations could repurpose the residential-area site into a maintenance facility serving parks and other public buildings.
