Design review board approves sign relocation for RL Lofts
SALINA, Kan. — The Salina Design Review Board unanimously approved a certificate of compatibility Tuesday to relocate two ground signs for the RL Lofts complex. The application, submitted by Justin Jennings on behalf of Roosevelt Lincoln Lofts LLC, allows developers to move the signage from the front of the buildings to the parking lot driveway entrances at 220 S. Seventh St. and 245 S. Eighth St.
RL Lofts ownership seeks better sign visibility near streets
SALINA, Kan. — The decision to move the RL Lofts ground signs closer to the street was driven by the property owner's desire for improved visibility. Kristyn Anderson, an architect and design project manager at Hutton, a commercial architecture and construction firm, told the design review board that relocating the signs from the building facades to the driveway entrances would make them more useful for wayfinding and site identification for both residents and visitors.
Historic Roosevelt and Lincoln schools continue adaptive reuse
SALINA, Kan. — The signage updates approved Tuesday apply to the former Roosevelt and Lincoln school buildings, which were constructed in 1915 and 1920. The historic campus, which closed in 2002, has since been converted into residential apartments known as RL Lofts. City staff noted during the meeting that maintaining the visual integrity of these historic structures was a primary factor in the signage review process.
RL Lofts signs to feature limestone and engraved lettering
SALINA, Kan. — Although the locations of the RL Lofts signs are changing, the previously approved physical design will remain identical. The design review board confirmed the project will feature low-profile monument signs with a limestone face, engraved lettering and a masonry brick base intended to complement the historic character and materials of the original school buildings.
