SALINA, Kan. — The Design Review Board unanimously approved a request for a certificate of appropriateness for a lighted monument sign, awning sign and wall signage at 315 West Pine Street during its May 14, 2025, meeting. After hearing the staff report and public-hearing comments, the board voted 8-0 to approve the request as submitted.
Internal illumination clears review after board discussion of new standards
SALINA, Kan. — Design Review Board members discussed whether the proposed sign package would be affected by newly adopted downtown design standards before approving the application. During the hearing, Senior Planner Alane Zlotnicki said the proposal would be approvable under the new standards with board review and noted that animated signs, not all internally illuminated signs, are now prohibited. Rich Heaton, a representative of RSH Sign Group, told the board the monument sign would use a halo-lit effect rather than illuminating the entire panel.
