City to enforce previously ignored 2009 insulation standards

SALINA, Kan. - The Salina Building Advisory Board announced March 10 that City of Salina inspectors will begin strictly enforcing attic insulation standards outlined in the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code. Director of Community and Development Services Lauren Driscoll admitted the requirements were historically overlooked by the Community and Development Services Department, but recent inspector ride-alongs highlighted the need for closer evaluation of residential attic spaces to ensure builders are complying with the long-standing rules.

Missing and uneven insulation found in new homes

SALINA, Kan. - A renewed focus on attic inspections comes after City of Salina staff found significant insulation deficiencies during recent final walkthroughs. According to Director of Community and Development Services Lauren Driscoll, inspectors have discovered new homes with uneven insulation distribution in attics, and in some instances, areas lacking blow-in insulation entirely.

Energy efficiency certificates mandated for electrical panels

SALINA, Kan. - Homeowners will soon notice new energy efficiency certificates posted inside their electrical panel doors as the City of Salina begins enforcing documentation rules. According to Director of Community and Development Services Lauren Driscoll, the mandatory stickers, which must be signed by the builder, detail the home's heating and cooling systems, water heater type and R-values for attic, wall and floor insulation, providing a permanent record of the home's energy standards.
