Council tables $250,000 fee waiver for affordable housing project
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. - The Rock Springs City Council voted to table a request from Overland Property Group to waive approximately $250,000 in city permit and tap fees for the Gardens at White Mountain, a proposed 48-unit affordable housing development. Overland Property Group Director of Development Austin Kack explained the state-backed project is facing a $2 million budget shortfall and needs local assistance to proceed. However, multiple councilors expressed concern about setting a precedent of subsidizing private developments with taxpayer dollars and draining enterprise funds meant for municipal water and sewer maintenance. The city council will revisit the issue after establishing a formal process to evaluate such requests.
E-bike ordinance workshop postponed to gather public input
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. - A workshop regarding a new city ordinance on electric bicycles has been rescheduled to Sept. 15, 2026. The delay was announced at the top of the meeting, noting that after reviewing the proposed ordinance in detail, it became apparent the issue required more than the originally allotted 12 days for public review. The delay will allow residents to view the draft and provide feedback to their city council members before formal policy discussions begin.
Downtown street closure approved for community car show
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. - The Rock Springs City Council unanimously approved a request from the Western Whisk Cheesecake Co. for a temporary road closure in downtown Rock Springs. A portion of C Street directly in front of the business will be closed on Aug. 21, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to accommodate a monthly community car show, highlighting ongoing efforts by local businesses to host events and drive foot traffic to the downtown corridor.
Public works crews battle mud, flooding at Dead Horse Creek
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. - Recent heavy rains in Rock Springs caused infrastructure challenges, notably at Dead Horse Creek. Director of Engineering and Operations Paul Kauchich was excused from attending the city council meeting, as he was knee-deep in mud alongside the streets department working to clear a plugged culvert. Despite the localized flooding, it was reported that drainage systems in the area functioned properly during the recent storms.
