RISE Cowley to Unveil County's First Food System Assessment at March 10 Coalition Meeting

WINFIELD, Kan. — RISE Cowley will debut Cowley County's first Food System Assessment and a new local food access video at its quarterly full coalition meeting Tuesday, March 10 at 10 a.m. at the Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce, 123 E. 9th Ave.

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.

The food access video, funded by a Hunger Free Kansas grant and produced by K-State Extension's Engaged Stories Lab, examines food access challenges across the county. The Food System Assessment, led by Rural Champion Amy Jo McWhirt, will serve as a roadmap for building a healthier, more sustainable local food system.

"Understanding where food comes from, how we access and consume it makes a difference," organizers said.

The two projects are described as key components of the community's Health Improvement Plan. K-State Extension – Cowley County and the Legacy Regional Community Foundation are among the partners involved.

Presenters will include Amy Jo McWhirt and Becky Reid. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn how to get involved in efforts to strengthen local food systems. Additional resources are available at RISECowley.org.
