Reno County overhauls public transit fares with new flat-rate system

RENO COUNTY, Kan. — Residents who rely on public transportation will soon see simplified fares after the Reno County Commission unanimously approved an overhaul of the area transit fare structure at its most recent meeting. The commission vote was taken at the last regular Reno County Commission meeting.

The new flat-rate pricing model for Reno County Area Transit sets fixed-route rides at 50 cents. Paratransit services will cost $1, demand-response rides will cost $2, and longer countywide trips are capped at $4. Officials said the changes are intended to make the system more financially predictable and accessible for residents traveling to work, appointments and errands. No effective date for the new fares has been confirmed.

In a separate update, the Reno County Public Works department announced a road-striping initiative planned for the coming year. Using newly acquired painting equipment, crews plan to apply high-visibility markings across 100 miles of county roads to improve nighttime driving safety.
