Reno County closes 95th Avenue for underground pipe work

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A stretch of 95th Avenue in Reno County will remain closed while crews replace a crossroad pipe beneath the roadway, county officials announced Friday.

The closure, which takes effect Monday, May 4, affects the segment of 95th Avenue between Halstead Road and Tobacco Road. Reno County Public Works did not provide an estimated completion date or specify detour routes in its announcement.

Crossroad pipe replacements typically involve removing and replacing drainage or utility conduit that runs beneath a road's surface. Such projects can range from several days to several weeks depending on soil conditions, pipe depth and weather.

The announcement was made May 1 via the Reno County, Kansas – Government Facebook page, where residents acknowledged they had noticed preparatory activity in the area in the days leading up to the closure.

Motorists who regularly travel 95th Avenue between Halstead and Tobacco roads are urged to seek alternate routes until the county issues an update. Reno County has not indicated whether a formal detour will be posted.

For updates on the project's status and anticipated reopening, residents can monitor the Reno County Government Facebook page or contact the Reno County Public Works Department directly.
