McPherson College's 50th anniversary car show brings 450 rare classics and concept vehicles to campus Saturday — free, 9 to 2.

MCPHERSON, Kan. — A student-organized motoring festival will bring 450 rare classic and concept vehicles from across the nation to McPherson College on Saturday, May 2, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the school's automotive restoration program.

The 26th annual C.A.R.S. Club Motoring Festival will feature automotive history alongside hands-on student projects, with a lineup that includes a 1908 American Underslung, a 1948 Tucker and three General Motors concept vehicles. The showcase is free to spectators and is expected to draw large crowds to the campus following a Friday, May 1, night cruise-in preview on Main Street.

"The car show is the biggest event we have on campus, drawing alumni and cars from all corners of the country," said Ernest Skehan, the event's student chair.

Running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday May 2, the festival will allow visitors to view rare entries — including a 1959 Cadillac Cyclone and a 1968 Lamborghini 400GT — alongside in-progress student restorations. The college will also offer live jazz performances, food trucks and public tours of Templeton Hall, headquarters of the college's nationally recognized restoration program.
