Railroad crossing repairs scheduled for Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON — Several railroad crossings in Hutchinson are scheduled for repair in the coming months, with work expected to begin in August, Mayor Stacy Goss announced.
Union Pacific has confirmed repairs for crossings at 4th and Porter streets and two locations at 3rd and Plum streets, according to a Facebook post by Goss. The company is currently sourcing materials and expects to begin work in August.
BNSF Railway has indicated that repairs to their crossings will begin in October, Goss said.
The mayor said she has been advocating for the repairs after months of outreach to the railroad companies. She submitted photographs and detailed reports of the crossing conditions to both Union Pacific's maintenance and public relations teams.
"I understand there are several other crossings throughout the city in need of attention," Goss wrote in her post. "I have submitted photos and detailed reports of these locations to both Union Pacific's maintenance and public relations teams."
Goss, who currently serves as a Hutchinson City Council member at-large and is running for the Northwest District seat in November, encouraged residents to report problematic crossings directly to her office.
"If you are aware of a crossing in disrepair that should be added to our inspection list, please email me directly at stacy.goss@hutchgov.com," she said. "Your input is valued as we work to improve safety and infrastructure throughout our city."
The mayor said she will continue to advocate for timely improvements and provide regular updates on the repair progress.
