Farley was driving a 1988 Cadillac Deville east on U.S. Highway 50 around 2:25 p.m. when a southbound 2006 Peterbilt dump truck on Ridge Road entered the intersection. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the truck, driven by Derek S. Tracy, 32, of Augusta, collided with the Cadillac, sending Farley's vehicle rolling onto its roof into a ditch on the southwest corner of the intersection. Farley was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tracy was extricated from the dump truck with minor injuries and transported by emergency medical services to Wesley Medical Center. The Highway Patrol noted that both men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Following the collision, the Harvey County Sheriff's Office temporarily closed Ridge Road south of the intersection to investigate and clear the wreckage, though U.S. 50 remained open to traffic.
