Police seek help identifying woman found dead in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Police are asking for the public's help identifying a woman whose remains were discovered six months ago in east Hutchinson.

Officers responded Jan. 2 to a call about a deceased person in the 1600 block of East First Avenue, where they found human remains, according to the Hutchinson Police Department. The scene was secured and processed before the remains were transferred to the Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office.

The cause of death remains undetermined, though investigators found no evidence of trauma prior to death.

Forensic analysis indicates the woman, referred to as Jane Doe, was likely a white female over 50 years old with wavy or slightly curly brown hair featuring gray streaks. The condition of her remains suggests she had been dead for approximately six months to a year before discovery.

A dental examination revealed significant issues that could help with identification, including severely worn, fractured and decayed teeth.

Despite ongoing investigative efforts, the woman remains unidentified.

"The Hutchinson Police Department is committed to finding answers and providing closure to her family and loved ones," police said in a statement.

Anyone with information about Jane Doe's identity is urged to contact the Hutchinson Police Department at 620-694-2822, local law enforcement or Crime Stoppers of Reno County at 800-222-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted through the P3Tips smartphone app or by texting RENOKS to 738477.

The investigation is ongoing.
