City settles lawsuit with Page Action Committee, agrees to ballot initiative
PAGE, Ariz. – The Page City Council voted Wednesday to settle a lawsuit with the Page Action Committee, agreeing to pay $27,000 in legal fees and place a resident-led initiative on the November 2026 ballot. The measure would preserve Lake Powell Boulevard from Rim View Drive to Aspen Street exactly as it existed on Oct. 1, 2023 (same lane count and width) and prohibit the City—or any outside funds—from being used to narrow that corridor (about 1.4 miles). The settlement follows the Arizona Supreme Court’s Roundtree v. City of Page ruling, which held the initiative is legislative in nature and therefore eligible for a public vote. Vice Mayor Mike Farrow, who led the discussion after two council members recused themselves, said the 2026 date was chosen to reduce election costs and ensure maximum voter turnout.
Council awards $2.8 million contract for airport terminal expansion
PAGE, Ariz. - The City Council unanimously approved a $2.8 million contract with TSG Constructors LLC on Wednesday to expand the Page Municipal Airport terminal building. The project, funded by a federal grant, will increase seating capacity to 30 passengers to accommodate Contour Airlines flights. Airport Manager Kyle Christiansen said the expansion includes new bathrooms and vending machines within the sterile area, preventing passengers from needing to be rescreened. The renovation will also reconfigure counter space and install a long-awaited elevator in the existing shaft. The project consultant is C&S Companies.
Study for new fire station, airport rescue facility approved
PAGE, Ariz. - The City Council authorized a $215,284 feasibility study for a new Airport Rescue and Firefighting building that could double as a north-end fire station for the community. C&S Companies will conduct the study, which will analyze potential locations, utility access and soil conditions at the airport. The project aims to address the fire department's need for more space and improve emergency response coverage in the northern part of the city, a service that was reduced when the city sold its old public works facility. During discussion, Councilor Tom Preller requested that the study explore options for solar power and battery backups for the facility.
Council greenlights more than $1.2 million for airport taxi lane rehabilitation
PAGE, Ariz. - In two separate votes Wednesday, the council approved contracts totaling more than $1.2 million to rehabilitate the taxi lane at Page Municipal Airport. Mel Clark Inc. was awarded the construction contract for nearly $1.1 million to perform pavement maintenance and resurfacing around the T-hangars and box hangars. C&S Companies was approved for the project's construction management. The work is funded primarily through state and federal reimbursable grants.
Downtown revitalization survey shows strong public support, council hears
PAGE, Ariz. - Consultants from Norris Design presented the initial findings from public outreach for the downtown revitalization project at Wednesday’s City Council meeting. An online survey garnered 294 responses, with 63 percent expressing excitement or providing helpful suggestions for the project. Key themes from resident feedback included a desire for improved pedestrian friendliness and safety, more family-friendly spaces, natural shade from trees and design elements unique to Page’s heritage. The consultants noted low in-person attendance at a recent town hall and plan to increase outreach efforts at community events like the upcoming Balloon Regatta on Nov. 1.
Sports complex to receive $646,000 lighting upgrade
PAGE, Ariz. - The council approved a $646,130 contract with Voss Lighting, a national supplier with a Phoenix branch, to upgrade all four fields at the city sports complex to modern LED lighting. The project is expected to save the city on energy and maintenance costs while eliminating the constant buzzing from old ballasts. According to city staff, the new system can be controlled remotely via computer or phone and includes the ability to change light colors for special events. The project was included in the city budget, which allocated $720,000 for the upgrades.
Date Street paving project fast-tracked before Halloween
PAGE, Ariz. - A $470,400 contract was awarded to Combs Construction Co., an Arizona-based paving contractor, to mill and overlay Date Street. In response to a question from Councilor Tom Preller, who recused himself from the vote because he lives on the street, staff confirmed the goal is to complete the project before Oct. 31 to avoid disrupting the neighborhood’s Halloween trick-or-treating activities.

Federal shutdown poses risks to local projects and services
COCONINO COUNTY, Ariz. — The ongoing federal government shutdown is creating uncertainty for federally funded social services and delaying key county projects, the Board of Supervisors learned Tuesday. The planned Emergency Operations Center is stalled as congressionally directed funding awaits action on Homeland Security appropriations; staff said impacts grow the longer the shutdown continues.
Congressman announces push to speed rebuilding of North Rim lodge
COCONINO COUNTY, Ariz. — After the Grand Canyon North Rim Lodge was destroyed by wildfire in July 2025, U.S. Rep. Eli Crane announced he is pursuing legislation aimed at accelerating rebuilding, including potential streamlining of the National Environmental Policy Act, the county’s lobbyist Keith Brekhus reported Tuesday. Deputy County Manager Eric Peterson clarified that the approach under discussion would utilize existing emergency authorities while maintaining protective standards.
