No. 6 Hutchinson men's golf finishes fifth at Sam Proal Invitational

PUEBLO, Colo. — The sixth-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team closed with its best round of the tournament but finished fifth at the Sam Proal Invitational, hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo at Pueblo Country Club.

The Blue Dragons posted a final-round 287 to finish with a 54-hole score of 865, ending the tournament 24 strokes behind team champion Colorado Christian. The Blue Dragons opened the tournament Monday, March 30, with rounds of 290 and 288.

Colorado Christian captured the title with a final-round 4-under 280 and a tournament total of 841, eight strokes ahead of runner-up CSU-Pueblo.

Freshman Hugo Duquaine paced Hutchinson on Tuesday, March 31, carding a 4-under 67. After a bogey on the third hole, Duquaine rebounded with birdies on Nos. 4, 10, 11, 14 and 18. Grant Hatzenbuehler (71), Corey Scullion (74) and Jack Northgraves (75) also contributed scores for the Dragons.

Duquaine and Scullion each finished the tournament at 1-under 212, good for a tie for 11th individually. Both trailed individual champion Peyton Jones of Colorado Christian by nine strokes. Jones closed at 10-under 203 after shooting a final-round 70.

Northgraves tied for 38th at 221 following his final-round 75. Hatzenbuehler tied for 66th at 228, while Joe Austin carded an 81 Tuesday to tie for 77th at 231.

Hutchinson returns to action Monday, April 13, when it competes in the Jayhawk Conference Championship at Sand Creek Station in Newton.
