On February 13, more than 115 guests will walk the red carpet, enjoy a formal dinner, and be crowned kings and queens at McPherson County's second annual Night to Shine celebration. The event, part of a global initiative organized through the Tim Tebow Foundation, creates a prom-like experience designed entirely around individuals with disabilities, a population that represents approximately 16 percent of the world yet often goes unnoticed in many communities. Hosted through a partnership with Journey Mennonite Church at the McPherson community building, the evening is offered at no cost to guests thanks to support from organizations like the McPherson County Community Foundation, which awarded a $2,000 grant in December to help cover meal expenses.

Each guest is paired with a volunteer buddy who stays with them throughout the evening, from dinner to dancing, while additional volunteers assist with food service, photography, and event logistics. One of the most anticipated moments is the red-carpet entrance, where guests arrive by party bus and are celebrated by community members serving as "paparazzi." The red-carpet portion is open to the public, giving the broader community a chance to participate in honoring the guests.

The impact of Night to Shine extends far beyond a single evening. Following last year's celebration, many guests immediately asked when the event would return, affirming its importance to those it serves. "They don't often get the accolades that their peers or other groups do," said volunteer Cindy Goldsmith. "This night gives them that opportunity." While the Tim Tebow Foundation will continue providing financial support through next year, the event also relies on local partnerships, volunteers, and donors. In 2025, an endowment was established at the McPherson County Community Foundation to help ensure Night to Shine remains a lasting tradition in the community.
