According to Newton Public Library’s event announcement, interior designer and classic cinema enthusiast Kaylee Mansfield will introduce the film and its star, Kansas-born actress Louise Brooks, who was born in Cherryvale and later gained international fame during the Jazz Age.
The William A. Wellman-directed production follows an orphan who disguises herself as a young man and rides the rails with a drifter while fleeing the law.
The library’s announcement says Mansfield, who appeared during its 2025 “Color Our World” summer reading program, will lead a discussion after the screening and invite attendees to share questions and reactions.
The announcement also says Mansfield hosted a silent film event with the Wichita-based Tallgrass Film Association in 2025.
The program will be held at Newton Public Library, 223 E. Seventh St.
