Newton announces street closures for slurry seal project
Residents warned to remove parked vehicles to avoid towing during three-day resurfacing
NEWTON, Kan. — Dozens of Newton residents will need to relocate their vehicles or face towing charges this week as city crews close eight residential roads for a pavement resurfacing project. The eight- to 10-hour closures will begin at 7 a.m. each day Tuesday through Thursday, June 23-25, while workers apply a slurry seal surface treatment.
Tuesday's schedule targets Southwest 12th Street between Old Main and Plum Street, along with Old Main from Southeast Ninth Street to Southwest Ninth Street. Wednesday brings closures to Southwest 11th Street and Cherry Lane, while Thursday wraps up work on Holly Street, Heather Lane, Larkspur Street and Brookside Drive.
The project is handled entirely by Newton's Street Division to extend local pavement life. The timeline remains subject to change due to weather. Crews plan to notify affected households with a front-door notice one business day before their specific street closes.
Newton's Street Division is urging residents to keep all pedestrian and vehicle traffic off the new surface until it fully dries. Vehicles left parked on the street prior to the morning closures may be towed at the owner's expense.
