McPHERSON, Kan. — Crews began installing permanent shade structures Wednesday at The Plaza, the downtown gathering space at Main and Marlin, covering both the stage area and the adjacent tables and seating. The project, approved by the McPherson City Commission in October, is being carried out by Happy Playgrounds.

The installation is funded through a mix of private and community support. McPherson residents Sid and Wendy Johnson contributed a donation through the McPherson County Community Foundation to shade the stage, part of $23,000 in private gifts routed through the foundation. McPherson Main Street covered the remaining balance with help from a grant from the McPherson Rotary Club to fund shade over the tables and gathering space.
