HUTCHINSON — About 90 cyclists navigated the scenic roads of northwest Reno County for the 2025 Sand Plum Bicycle Classic, tackling a mix of paved and gravel routes under clear skies.

Presented by Harley's Bicycles and hosted by the Hutchinson Recreation Commission, the annual ride offered four paved distances and two gravel options, allowing riders of varying skill levels to experience the region's countryside.

The extensive course lineup included a 70-plus-mile paved challenge dubbed the "Bad Bobby Route," named in memory of longtime event supporter Bob Helfrich.

The event drew cycling enthusiasts not only for the picturesque views and ideal weather but also to bolster local outdoor infrastructure. Participation in the classic directly benefits the Friends of the Trail Fund, an initiative that helps expand and enhance walking and biking paths throughout Reno County.

Supported by local volunteers and featuring fully stocked rest stops along the various courses, organizers celebrated the non-competitive ride as a successful day for both community fitness and regional trail development.
