Multiple Roads Closed in Reno County Due to Flooding

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Seven roads in Reno County remained closed Monday due to flooding, according to the Reno County Emergency Management Department.
As of 4:30 p.m. July 28, 2025, the following roads were closed due to flooding: 95th Dean to Wilson, 69th Wilson to Pennington, 50th Wilson to Pennington, 43rd Pennington to Hendricks, Salle 82nd to 108th, Wilson 69th to 82nd, and Pennington 50th to Nickerson Boulevard.
Emergency management officials warned residents to turn around and avoid driving through flooded roadways. "If you encounter a road with water across it turn around and don't drown," the department advised in a social media post.
The department described the information as the most up-to-date available at the time and encouraged residents to check for updates as conditions change.
County Commission Meeting Canceled
The Reno County Commission announced there will be no meeting on the fifth Wednesday in July, which falls on July 30. The commission typically meets on the fifth Wednesday of months that have five Wednesdays.
The commission previously met on July 9, 16 and 23, 2025. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on Aug. 13, 2025, in the Veterans Room of the Reno County Courthouse, 206 West First Ave.
County Employee Retirement Celebration
Reno County will host a retirement reception for Rochele Hoskinson on Thursday, July 31, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at 120 W. Avenue B in the large conference room.
Hoskinson is retiring after 14 years of community service with the county. The reception is open to the public to congratulate her on her retirement.
Women's First Responders Symposium Scheduled
Reno County EMS is promoting an upcoming Women's First Responders Symposium scheduled for Sept. 19, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Tony's Event Center, 800 The Midway in Salina.
The symposium will feature sessions on wellness, leadership, women's health issues, career prevention and first responder mental health. Topics will be presented by various speakers including representatives from the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office and the Wichita Fire Department.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with an opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided from noon to 1 p.m. Limited scholarships are available for the event.
Emergency management officials described the symposium as "a great opportunity to learn and network" for women in first responder roles.
