Moundridge Student, Father Die in Kanopolis Lake Boating Accident

MOUNDRIDGE — Two incoming Moundridge High School freshmen and a parent were involved in a boating accident Thursday at Kanopolis Lake when they became separated from their vessel. Khloe Heim and Jerrod Dalke were found dead Saturday, while Dalke's daughter Reagen survived and is recovering in the hospital after being found in the water. All three victims have connections to USD 423.

The Moundridge school district has activated its Crisis Response Team to provide emotional support for students and families affected by the tragedy. Counseling resources and staff contacts have been made available to help community members process the sudden loss. The district has also provided families with guidance materials on discussing death and grief with children.

A community gathering will be held Wednesday, July 9, from 6-8 p.m. at Grace Crossing Church on Cole Street, where students and families can connect and share memories over pizza. The school district plans to share information about memorial services when details become available. A MealTrain has been established to support both affected families during this difficult time.
