Moundridge Overcomes Early Mistakes to Defeat Sedgwick 38-8

MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge Wildcats shook off early mistakes and dominated the second half to defeat Sedgwick 38-8 Thursday night, improving to 6-1 on the season.

After taking a 7-0 lead on Paul Grill's 18-yard touchdown run, Moundridge faced adversity when Sedgwick responded with a 1-yard touchdown and two-point conversion to take an 8-7 lead early in the second quarter. The Wildcats quickly answered with a momentum-swinging 86-yard kickoff return by Logan Greenwalt to reclaim the lead for good.

Quarterback Owen Colwell threw three touchdown passes, completing 13 of 17 attempts for 128 yards. Heath Churchill hauled in two scoring strikes of 3 and 13 yards, while Easton Shahan added four catches for 60 yards and a 22-yard touchdown reception.

Grill paced the ground game with 107 yards on 15 carries while anchoring the defense with seven tackles, eight assists, and two sacks. The Wildcats' defensive unit held Sedgwick to just 210 total yards and forced a turnover.

Cyrus Blough was perfect on special teams, converting all five extra points and adding a 28-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

"We had some uncharacteristic mistakes tonight that made things difficult early in the game," said Coach O'Connor. "We continued to play strong defense and took advantage of some big plays down the stretch to secure the win."
