MOUNDRIDGE, Kan. — The Moundridge Community Foundation has awarded $6,000 in its inaugural round of "Homegrown" grants, funding three community-driven projects designed to address local challenges and opportunities.

The new grant program aims to spark sustainable, community-driven change by empowering residents to take ownership of solutions tailored to their unique needs. The initiative provides funding, resources and support for grassroots projects that foster innovation, build local leadership and strengthen community connections.

The largest award, totaling $3,575, funded the installation of a free public air pump at Moundridge Lumber and Rental. The project, completed earlier this month, allows drivers and bicyclists to fill their tires at no cost. The collaboration involved Moundridge Lumber and Rental, the City of Moundridge and Frontier Electric, with the foundation grant covering equipment costs.

A second grant of $1,497.41 will replace damaged and worn signage at the Moundridge Disc Golf Course located in Black Kettle Park. The new signs have been ordered and are expected to be installed in the coming months.

The third award of $972.59 went to Moundridge High School's leadership class to launch a student civic engagement program. The project encourages students to contribute positively to their community through active participation.

The Homegrown Grant program operates year-round, following the same timeline as the foundation's regular grants cycle. Applications are due on the 15th of every other month, beginning in November.

The foundation encourages applicants to follow a three-step process: "Plant Your Idea" by sharing concepts for community improvement, "Grow it Together" by collaborating with local groups to develop grant applications, and "Harvest the Good" through funded implementation of selected projects.
