MMS Wrestling Finishes Regular Season at 9-3
Varsity Prepares for League Tournament; JV Shows Major Improvement
The McPherson Middle School wrestling team concluded its dual meet season with a 9-3 record following a split decision in Thursday night's action against Wellington and Augusta.
The Bullpups dominated Wellington 76-18 before falling in a hard-fought battle against Augusta 40-45. With the regular season complete, the varsity squad will travel to Circle on Saturday for the League Tournament.
"Our JV guys are all wrapped up and they have shown a ton of improvement these last two months," said head coach Kaden Kretzer. "We're excited to see what our varsity can do at the league tournament."
Seven varsity wrestlers went undefeated on the night, posting 2-0 records: Eli Brown, Trace Dearing, Mark Montgomery, Dalton VanEaton, Tatem Schulz, Gavin Williams, Towns DeLaney, and Easton Gehring.
Caysen Huber, Eli Barnett, Gavin Montagne, Brendyn Nestor, and Maverick Mendoza each finished 1-1 in the dual meets. Jordan Reno, Ronin Pryzmus, and Zaybrieon Green gained valuable experience despite going 0-2.
The JV squad also delivered strong performances, with four wrestlers going undefeated: Zakiyas Perkins (2-0), Eddie Koehn (2-0), Fabian Banuelos-Moreno (2-0), and Xavier Hartinger (2-0). Eli Brown added a 1-0 record.
Kydon Matteson, Jaymes Cordell, and Diego Ibarra each posted 1-1 records, while Ari Janes and Lakyn Lehman competed in both matches.
The Bullpups will look to carry their momentum into Saturday's League Tournament at Circle.
