MMS Tennis Gains Valuable Experience Against Wichita Collegiate
Middle schoolers face tough competition in non-league matchup

McPherson Middle School tennis faced a significant test Monday in an added dual match against Wichita Collegiate, falling 15-3 but gaining valuable experience against higher-level competition than typically encountered in league play. The match provided an opportunity for the team's beginning and intermediate players to challenge themselves against similarly skilled opponents from the Wichita school, with many players showing improvement despite the tough results.
Seventh-grader Elsie Walters emerged as the star performer for McPherson, dominating her singles match with a 6-1 victory over Elsie Farha and sweeping both of her doubles appearances. Walters paired with Aly Rausch for a convincing 6-0 doubles win and teamed with Mabel Jones for a thrilling tiebreak victory at 6-5 (3). Amanda Lauw also showed flashes of strong play, moving opponents around the court and connecting on several offensive shots during her matches. The same group of players will travel to El Dorado on Thursday to continue their development against quality competition.
