MMS 8th Grade Volleyball Teams Sweep Season Openers
Both A and B squads defeat Haysville schools to start 2-0

McPherson Middle School's 8th grade volleyball teams opened their season with impressive performances at a triangular meet in Haysville West, with both squads sweeping their matches to start 2-0. The A team defeated Haysville West (25-12, 25-23) and Haysville (25-10, 25-5), overcoming early serving struggles in the first match before finding their rhythm. Coach Christine Pianalto praised the passing of Myiah Crawford-Dingman and Elles Pavlovich throughout both contests, while Rheamy Rierson and Abby Schieferecke dominated from the service line with multiple aces during long serving runs against Haysville.
The B team also recorded straight-set victories, defeating Haysville West (25-13, 25-23) and Haysville (25-16, 25-9) behind strong serving performances from Harper Zaharis, Mylee Cooke, and Mackee Cooke. The Bullpups showed resilience in their opener, battling back from a deficit in the second set against West to secure the win. Payton File contributed multiple blocks at the net to help seal key points. Coach Ally Lusk highlighted the teamwork displayed in both matches. The 8th grade teams return home Thursday, September 4, to face Great Bend and Hays, with the A team playing at MMS and the B team competing at the McPherson Community Building.
