Middle School Wrestlers Open Season at Eisenhower B Tournament

The McPherson Middle School wrestling team kicked off their season at the Eisenhower B Tournament with three wrestlers posting undefeated records and several athletes experiencing their first competitive matches.

Fabian Banuelos-Moreno, Ezekiel Zellner, and Bentley Pfeiff each went a perfect 3-0 to lead the Bullpups, while Jordan Reno nearly matched them with a 3-1 performance. Several other wrestlers posted winning records in their season debuts, including Kaiden Brown (2-1), Caysen Huber (2-1), and Eli Barnett (1-1).

"We had a lot of kids wrestle their first ever matches and I couldn't be happier with their effort," said McPherson coach Kaden Kretzer, emphasizing the positive start despite mixed results from the young squad.

Xavier Hartinger, Brendyn Nestor, and Ronin Pryzmus each battled to 2-2 records, gaining valuable experience in their four matches. Zakiyas Perkins also competed in four bouts, finishing 2-2, while Diego Ibarra (1-2) and Kydon Matteson (1-2) picked up wins in their tournament debuts.

First-time competitors Ari Janes, Lakyn Lehman, Jaymes Cordell, and ZayBrieon Green faced tough opposition but gained crucial mat experience that will benefit them throughout the season. The team will look to build on this opening tournament as they continue their schedule in the coming weeks.
