MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson varsity boys and girls track and field teams split squads across two meets last week, sending qualifiers to the Emporia State Relays at Welch Stadium in Emporia and the remainder of the roster to the Smoky Valley Invitational in Lindsborg, combining for 46 personal records between varsity and junior varsity athletes despite cold and windy conditions that forced the Emporia meet to be canceled midway through.

On the girls side, Cayla Weimer led the way with a second-place finish in the triple jump and a fifth-place showing in the high jump at the Smoky Valley Invitational, while Andi Buschbom placed sixth in the long jump at the Emporia State Relays before the cancellation. Zayna Busse took fourth in the shot put, Kinsey Harold placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles and Maryn Sandbo finished fifth in the 800 meters, all at Smoky Valley.

On the boys side, Mason Miller claimed first place in the javelin at the Smoky Valley Invitational and teamed with Brody Milleson, Jayce Gunn and McKoy Berggren for a third-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay. Jayren Stutzman finished second and Yony Banuelos sixth in the 100-meter dash, Gunn placed fifth in the discus and Kinnick Anderson took seventh in the triple jump at the Emporia State Relays.
