McPherson Updates Snow Removal Policy
City commission revises protocols to improve department coordination following last year's winter weather challenges
MCPHERSON, Kan. — The City Commission voted Jan. 20 to update the city's snow and ice control policy, adding formal procedures for collaboration between police, fire, Public Works, and Public Lands and Facilities departments after coordination challenges during severe winter weather last year. The revised policy maintains the city's three-tier priority system for street clearing, with major thoroughfares and emergency routes receiving initial attention and streets near schools automatically elevated to priority status on days when classes are in session.
