MCPHERSON, Kan. — Grab a pair of wireless headphones, choose a channel and dance. That is the pitch behind a new Silent Disco Pop-Up Series coming to McPherson the first two weeks of June, offering a free and interactive twist on the traditional dance party. Supported by a grant with funding from the McPherson Convention & Visitors Bureau, the series will temporarily transform familiar local venues into quiet but energetic dance floors.

Instead of booming external speakers, attendees receive wireless headsets that stream multiple music channels simultaneously. The setup allows a crowd to share the same physical space while dancing to completely different songs. "You put on these fun headsets, and there are multiple different DJs and playlists going at one time," said Lindsay Helms, adult programming coordinator for the McPherson Public Library, which helped organize the series. "Everybody dances ... it's a really exciting time."

The mobile party kicks off Friday, June 5, with a 21-and-older session from 10 p.m. to midnight at Three Rings Brewery. The nightlife atmosphere continues Saturday, June 6, when the event moves to the Downtown Plaza from 8 to 11 p.m. That adult-only block party will feature DJ Noah Dossett, alongside YP Mac, the Whiskey Wagon and pizza by the slice from Pizza Ranch.

For families and younger residents, the series includes several all-ages stops. On the morning of June 6, the headsets will head to Wall Park from 9 to 10:30 a.m. for the finish line of the Dino Dash, a fun run tied to the library's dinosaur-themed "Unearth a Story" summer reading program. The McPherson American Legion will host another all-ages evening session Monday, June 8, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The pop-up series concludes Tuesday, June 9, with a final family-friendly dance from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the McPherson Public Library, located at 214 W. Marlin. All silent disco events are free to attend, though organizers require advance registration for the Wall Park and library sessions at macpl.libcal.com.
