McPherson Teen Dies in Shooting After House Party Altercation
KBI investigating incident near Inman; 18-year-old questioned after fatal shooting
MCPHERSON, Kan. — A 19-year-old McPherson man was fatally shot early Saturday morning following a physical altercation that stemmed from a house party southwest of Inman, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Joshua Soden was pronounced dead at the scene near 4th Avenue and Arapaho Road after KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team responded to a request for assistance from the McPherson County Sheriff's Office around 2 a.m. Investigators determined that partygoers had a disagreement after consuming alcohol. Two groups left in separate pickup trucks before meeting on a rural road approximately two miles from the party location.
The 18-year-old male who authorities say shot Soden during the fight called 911 to report the incident and then drove to the Inman Police Department, where he was questioned by authorities but has not been arrested, the KBI said.
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities have interviewed several witnesses and said the community is not at any risk related to the incident.
