McPherson Soccer Teams Fall in Close Contests
Varsity battles Classical in thrilling 4-3 loss while JV squad struggles offensively

Both McPherson soccer teams suffered defeats in their latest matches, with the varsity squad falling 4-3 to Classical in a thrilling back-and-forth contest while the JV team dropped a 4-1 decision. The varsity Bullpups showed tremendous resilience throughout the match, responding each time they fell behind despite going down 0-1 early in the game. Manny Morales led the comeback effort with two goals, first tying the match 1-1 before scoring again with an assist from Ben Boccox to help McPherson regain the lead.
The highlight of the night came when Yahir Valadez delivered what coaches called "the goal of the night," smashing a spectacular shot into the top corner from 25 yards out, assisted by Ben Boccox, to give McPherson a 3-2 halftime advantage. However, the goals dried up for the Bullpups in the second half despite several close calls, including hitting the post. Classical capitalized with two second-half goals to secure the 4-3 victory. Goalkeeper Gabe Standfast kept McPherson competitive with 11 saves on the night. The JV squad managed just one goal in their 4-1 defeat, with Nickson Muehler providing the lone score. The varsity team will look to bounce back quickly with their first home game of the season Tuesday against El Dorado.
